Jefferson County, Indiana is nestled in the SE corner of the State along the Ohio River. This site is for the discussion of genealogy in that county. We also want to share discoveries and share information with one another. It took me 20 years to discover where, exactly my great-grandfather embarked on his trek to the California Gold Rush. Please feel free to join in the discussion.

After a few years of researching my family tree, I have discovered many facts. First and foremost is this — the further back one goes, the harder it is to verify information. Not only is there a lack of verification, but often those working on similar trees have erroneous information. I fell into a trap when I did not verify the mother of an ancestor.
Wilson is very common name, ninth (as of May 2009) in the nation and probably up there for the world as well. There appears to be several unrelated off-shoots of Wilson’s in Jefferson County, Indiana and I am VERY interested in documenting them.
Has anyone else done this or is anyone else working on this? If so, give me a shout and let’s talk.

Spent the first part of the summer documenting my Wilson/Bentz side of the family in preparation for Madison’s Bicentennial Parade. I was trying to document where I fit into the list of Founding Families. In any event, my research took me to the Jefferson County Court House serveral times before it caught fire. I also traveled the roads of Trimble County, Kentucky and Dearborn County, Indiana.
This isn’t going to be a short term project. No, not for me. I have stop and learn all the history of an area and take in all the sites.
Keep in touch,
